Captivate 5: Turn off text caption box auto resizing

December 1, 2010

Something that annoyed me in Captivate 1 and 3, which I never properly investigated, was the ‘feature’ of the text caption resizing whenever you edit the text inside it. You’d have to drag the handles to get the caption back to the size you wanted.

Well, I’ve been doing quite a few text edits in Captivate 5 recently and this ‘feature’ was really annoying me. I Googled to see if there was a way to turn it off — and there is.

  1. Go to Edit > Preferences on the Captivate menu.
  2. In the Global group, select Defaults.
  3. Clear the Autosize Captions check box.
  4. Click OK.

Note: Despite the Global name, you have to set this option for EACH of your projects (or in your template so that it holds for future projects you create).

According to the Adobe Forum post where I found the answer (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/129242?tstart=0), this also works in Captivate 4 (and possibly earlier versions too).
