Vista: Changing the size of desktop iconsSeptember 8, 2008
When I installed programs onto my new Vista laptop, the desktop icons seemed particularly large—quite a bit larger than the Windows XP icons. No matter what resolution I tried, or how many times I checked the ‘Personalize’ options, or what search criteria I used, I couldn’t find an easy way to make them smaller. Google to the rescue—again!
To make large desktop icons in Vista smaller, do one of these:
- Right-click on the Vista desktop, select View > Classic Icons. This resizes them back to XP size.
- Hold down the Ctrl key as you roll the wheel on the mouse. Roll towards you to make them smaller, and roll away from you to make them bigger.
