Helpful hints for troublesome words…

  • To differentiate between affect (verb) and effect (noun), think of the word Raven —AV for Affect (Verb), and EN for Effect (Noun).
  • To differentiate licence (noun) and license (verb), think of the words adviCe (noun) and adviSe (verb). (Not applicable to those from the US who spell all variations as license.)
  • To differentiate stationEry and stationAry, think of E for envelopes and A as in parked cars.
