Superfluous quote marks

May 9, 2008

I came across a blog the other day where the author’s focus is on reporting instances of unnecessary quotation marks, such as those found in both amateur and professional signs.

There are a lot out there—as at early April 2008, she had well over 1000 blog posts, many with photos of the offending signs submitted by readers. In fact, as the word spreads about her site, I’d suspect she’d have more than enough to keep her going for at least another 1000 or more posts.

If you want a laugh—or take shake your head in horror—head on over to Bethany Keeley’s blog at http://quotation-marks.blogspot.com/ and take a look at some of the signs she’s posted.

Oh, and while on the subject of unnecessary quotation marks in signs, take a look at this one too: http://radian.org/notebook/quote-unquote.
